Management Today, in conjunction with Nottingham Business School, conducted an annual survey asking the top ten public companies in each sector to rate their peers against a range of criteria. The level of respect in which each contender is held by its main market competitors is revealed by the results according to Management Today.
24 industrial sectors form the basis of this survey and in the Building Material and Merchants sector, the top five companies in the 2006 survey were Wolseley, Marshalls, Pilkington, SIG and BSS.
Out of 239 companies surveyed by the magazine, BSS achieved a respectable 150th place in the most admired league table.
